Santa Fe Monday Sep 30

Wake to the wonderful news that our son has gotten a new job that intrigues him, and that a home-exchange for a house in Media Pennsylvania that we thought had fallen through – a weekend reunion of the Grant families to visit Longwood Gardens and each other – has actually been approved.

Sara Hope graciously gets up early to drive Michael and David to the trailhead for the “170 trail” hike to Atalaya Peak, which is a 6-mile jaunt with a 2,000 foot elevation to 9200 feet. Mike is a superb trail guide, considerately stopping at strategic spots so David can actually breathe. We can see all of Santa Fe directly beneath us, including Michael and Sara Hope’s house, and Los Alamos in the far distance.

Sara Hope graciously returns home and drives Cynthia to XXXX Park where she can play some pick-up pickleball.

Sara Hope graciously retrieves Michael and David from the hike’s end and returns us to their house where we sit outside on their lovely front deck by their garden and have lunch and snacks and converse for the remainder of the afternoon and through cocktails until it’s time to walk outside their walled yard and cross the street to a sunset viewpoint where we watch the sun settle into a far mountain range, illuminating the clouds overhead with all the vibrant “oh wow” colors you might expect from a southwest sunset.

Dinner at a wonderful and decidedly different restaurant named Vinaigrette, which serves home-grown salads topped with wonderful ingredients of your choice, such as artichokes, goat cheese, duck confit and numerous other delicacies.
