October 11 London

Rick Steves guidebook has a plan to combine a visit to Hampton Court Palace with a visit to Kew Gardens.  Both are an hour commute out of town involving a couple of changes (tube, to rail, to bus) and opportunities to get lost.  Before leaving the hotel I made reservations for HCP.  Following Google maps directions we tubed to a train station and caught a bus after the train ride. We got off the bus at a closed entrance, walked for 10 minutes to another entrance, and were told that they are closed on Tuesday!  When I made the reservations I took the first available day and didn’t notice that it was Wednesday. So we found our way to Kew and spent the entire afternoon.  It was a lovely autumn day and we were able to get a small guided tour.  A pleasant time and place.  And the return to So Kensington was an easy tube only trip.

We went back to our hotel to clean up before dinner and our second play.  Ate at another nearby pub (Anglesea Arms) before going to see “Eureka Day”.  It is an American play and the cast were all American. But, David wanted to go to the Old Vic theater and the reviews were good. Helen Hunt was one of the 5 actors in this American play about progressives and school vaccinations.  It had a lot of humor as well as serious representation of the issues.  The audience loved it.  It was another fun event.
