Feb 19 Turangi to Hawke’s Bay

Drive to Taupo, fix glasses for free, walk to waterfall, drive to Orakei Korako Cave and Thermal Park hot springs, see geyser, arrive at Todd and Kate’s, late dinner.

The people in Taupo’s eyeglass store fixed Cynthia’s glasses for free and, when asked if they might accept a tip, told her to put a donation in a bottle for a seeing-eye dog nonprofit. We whisked out of town and drove up, down and around New Zealand’s constantly astoundingly compact and beautiful volcanic hills and valleys, driving without much traffic at all on two-lane, black tarmac roads that are extremely well maintained. Cynthia reminds David that the speed limit is less than whatever is posted at every opportunity but their marriage survives the drive intact by the time they arrive at [name to come] falls.

ROARING turquoise waters rush through a cataract, under a bridge over the cataract and down a 30-foot drop into a river frothed in white and green. As soon as we’ve taken a photo of the water, Peter and Jane from Waitomo

ooops low battery tbc.
