Thursday September 28 Paris

We all arrived safely. Nancy and George Ann flying in from Columbus, Carolyn from Seattle, Cynthia from DC and Jill from Raleigh. Taxied in to our “Marais” apartment. Not the charming location we expected but the LivinParis apartment is quite nice. Although we were allowed to drop our bags at 1 we couldn’t move in until the cleaning was done. We found a cafe where we could sit, get a little to eat and toast our arrival. Google maps helped us find a wonderful cheese shop and butcher from which we bought pâtés and cheeses for our “dinner” at home. Early to bed.

The next day we took off for the Picasso museum and Nancy realized she had left her phone at home and George Ann did not have her museum pass. Travel is all about challenges! But on the better luck side we just happened across a bakery that sold gluten free breads – for Jill. Nancy and I returned to the apartment for her phone (buying metro passes for all along the way) and then met the others near the Hôtel de Ville where we met our cars.

For 90 minutes we tooled around the left bank with Jean and Pierre. A crazy but fun way to tool around. The weather was perfect. We saw the Pantheon, Luxembourg Gardens, and Saint Sulpice. There is a LOT of TRAFFIC in Paris now so our tour was not as extensive as expected. And, driver Pierre got upset because somehow this was going to mean that he did not get lunch. The two cars were different experiences. Pierre played music, Jean talked history. Everyone had a good time.

Next was the Pompidou Centre. Top of my list.

Next a ride on the Seine. At sunset. With blinking lights on the Eiffel Tower.

Although it was late when we finished the ride we went to a lovely restaurant in the Marais – La Place Royale. Excellent food. Eight Euro bottle of water! Special source? Nancy had Macon Village for the first time and liked it. We opted for an Uber home after a very busy and long day!!!
