( I think that I have done this entry already but I can not see it on the post. Connection issues are a problem.)
We had a day in Marseille before our 7:50 flight to Sicily. We returned to the cathedral to see inside as well as the outside. Then we walked through the old town before going back to our hotel for our bags. The cathedral is very impressive. The amount of expense and artistic energy put into such places is remarkable. The old town is full of grafitti. It reminds me of the street in Melbourne that has wonderful graffiti that is changing all the time. In Marseille, it is not just one street/alley. It is throughout the old town. Colorful but somehow cheapening the old neighborhood and turning the old charm into something cheap.
We took the metro – very clean and nice – to the train station where we caught a bus to the airport. The bus dropped us at the Ryanair terminal. Makes sense. We were very early for our flight which was good because directions were not clear. Signs to go one way but people going another. But, we made it fine. On the advise of John and Roberta we took a cab from the airport to the apartment. It was possible to train into town but we would then need a taxi from there – and it was late. So, we took a cab. Expensive but it took us right to our door – despite the very narrow street on which we are staying.
