September 25 Fontain-de-Vaucluse to Marseille

Leaving Vison for Marseille and leaving France. We had planned to stop in Isle-sur-la-Sorgue on our way to Marseille but realized that it was antique market day and would be mobbed – traffic, no parking. So, we decided to go to Fontain-de-Vaucluse instead. As we entered town and saw the green river David and I realized that this is the spot we visited many years ago. Bernadette took us there so that Byron and David could kayak. There are restaurants lining the banks for pleasant dining with the sound of water.

On to Marseille – huge, loud, extremely windy, hustle, diversity. Urban life so different to the quiet beauty of Provence.

Checked into our hotel and set a time to meet for dinner. Then David and I took off looking for the Kusmi tea store so I could replace the infuser I left behind in Aix. The shop was on the 3rd level of a huge shopping center that could have been Tyson’s corner or Pentagon City. At least half the stores were the same as in a US mall. Kusmi was across the hall from the Starbucks.

Almost every restaurant recommended by our guide book was closed on Sunday so we were left with a Moroccan place on the old port. The food was very good but we got lost trying to get there. For some reason David and I had no cell service (for the first time in our trip) and we walked a long way. But, dinner was restorative and we took a cab home.
