September 24 Grignon, Provence

This was our first rainy day. We decided to go to Grignon on the advice of Virgil in the hotel. It was in none of our guidebooks but it has a chateaux which seemed like a indoor activity for a rainy day. It turned out to be a wonderful experience maybe because it is not in all the guidebooks. There was a lot of information about the destruction during the revolution and the people who over the years have restored it to it’s old glory. By the black and white terrace a man was playing a harp which added atmosphere to the place. The staff seemed very proud of the place.

The town itself is beautiful and the houses/rooms carved into the stone are impressive.

After our tour we had lunch at a wine bar in a space adjacent to the castle. A wonderful place who’s name I will add later.

We moved on to a vineyard nearby that was also suggested by the hotel. The wine was nothing exceptional but the visit with the 80+ year old founder was good entertainment. And the garden with lavender and vines beautiful.

Ended the day with a climb to the little town of Visan and then dinner at a Michenlin starred chef’s summer restaurant. A charming place. Food not over the top.
