September 6 Amboise – last day

Liliane invited us to dinner at her house in Les Montils. Both Chambord and Cheverney are closer to her than us in Amboise so we decided to go to the castles in the afternoon and then to her house. Since we were leaving town the next morning we decided to prepare for our departure before going out. So, the morning was about packing and sorting through left over food.

Then off we went to Chambord. We decided that we wanted to see the outside of the Chateaux but would only go into Cheverney which is more richly furnished. When we arrived at Chambord we found that it is under repair. Not as wonderful but impressive.

Chateaux de Cheverny was fully decorated inside. The family who owns it lives upstairs. It is the site for many Tintin adventures and there is a whole exhibition on the comics. It was built as a hunting lodge and maintains that tradition. There are lots of hunting dogs which is one of the attractions.

Then we were off to see Liliane and Richard in their relatively new home. They were most gracious to cook for us and host us since they had just had 5 house guests for a week. It was wonderful to see them and you can see that Liliane is the same. We had planned to leave at 9 since we had a big day coming but we stayed until after 10. Luckily that meant fewer cars and the road and we got home in less than half an hour.
